Lyndal Le Bas
Speech Pathologist
Lyndal first realised her passion for working in the disability sector during high school work experience with children with hearing impairment. After a brief sidestep into the field of agricultural science, Lyndal returned to her passion and undertook a degree in speech pathology. Early in her career, the international demand for speech pathologists took Lyndal to London where she worked in one of Europe’s largest special schools and found herself conducting speech therapy with the Queen of England observing the session. Lyndal managed her own private speech pathology practice for several years in Canberra and Sydney, with a focus on providing speech pathology services to children with autism and their families.
Lyndal’s enjoyment of academia saw her complete a Master of Science in Human Communication at the University of London and a Diploma in Management Studies at the University of North London, later complementing these qualifications with a Graduate Certificate in Inclusive Education (in autism) at the University of Canberra, for which she received a Dean’s Excellence Award.
In embracing the breadth of opportunity in the health and disability sectors Lyndal has also worked in roles from senior to frontline project and operational management in areas such as better integration of acute community services, coordination of the NSW newborn hearing screening program, director of allied health at a rehabilitation hospital, and more recently in NDIS Local Area Coordination, and in Specialist Support Coordination in NDIA’s exceptionally complex support needs program.
Understanding the perspectives and experiences of people with communication challenges and those who support them is a central focus in Lyndal’s work. She is committed to collaborative and creative practice that involves thinking outside of the box in planning supports, and in delivering evidence-based supports that focus on functional and meaningful contributions of speech pathology involvement.
